The 7 Pillars of Wellness

A Proven Approach to Dementia Care

At Palm Villas, we don’t just manage symptoms—we actively work to slow the progression of dementia.

Our unique 7 Pillars of Wellness program combines clinical expertise with compassionate care to enhance every resident’s quality of life.

Why the 7 Pillars Matter

The best dementia care focuses on managing the progression and maximizing quality of life.

Palm Villas was built on a simple truth: Every resident deserves a life filled with purpose, joy, and connection.

Our 7 Pillars of Wellness are a scientifically grounded framework designed to achieve exactly that. From brain fitness to anxiety reduction through our beloved animal therapy, each pillar works together to create a supportive, engaging environment.

These 7 Pillars are:

1. Cognitive Stimulation

Keeping the Mind Sharp. Memory loss doesn’t mean the mind stops working. Our Cognitive Stimulation program uses brain fitness exercises to support and maintain memory function.

  • Activities: Music therapy, word and strategy games, art classes, and more.
  • The Benefit: Helps maintain mental acuity, reduces confusion, and celebrates the memories that remain.

2. Exercise

Movement for Brain Health. Physical activity is proven to have significant positive impacts on brain functionality. We tailor exercise programs to every ability level.

  • Activities: Gentle stretching, balance training, walking groups in our secure gardens, and seated aerobics.
  • The Benefit: Improves mobility, boosts mood through endorphins, and supports overall cognitive health.

3. Social Activities

Building Community and Connection. Isolation accelerates decline. We provide a vibrant calendar of social events to ensure every resident feels part of a community.

  • Activities: Bingo nights, card games, dance parties, arts and crafts, casino nights, and holiday celebrations.
  • The Benefit: Combats loneliness, fosters friendships, and keeps spirits high through shared joy.

4. Anxiety Reduction (Our Signature Differentiator)

Finding Calm Through Nature and Animals. Dementia can bring overwhelming anxiety and fear. We use unique, proven methods to create a stress-free environment.

Meet Moose and Crouton – reducing anxiety for residents and families alike.

  • Our Unique Approach: Our facility is home to a peaceful bird sanctuary, an array of fish, and lovable puppies.
  • The Benefit: Studies show that interaction with pets and nature significantly reduces anxiety, fear, and depression, sparking moments of pure joy and non-verbal connection.

5. Support Groups

Walking the Journey with Families. Dementia affects the whole family. Our Support Groups are designed to help families navigate the emotional and practical challenges of the disease.

  • What We Offer: Regular meetings, educational workshops, and a compassionate community of families facing similar journeys.
  • The Benefit: Provides families with resources, emotional support, and a network of understanding peers, reducing caregiver burnout.

6. Culinary Experience

Nourishment Tailored to Needs. Eating is a social and sensory experience. Our culinary program is designed to suit every resident’s specific needs, including swallowing precautions.

  • Our Approach: Chef-prepared meals that are both nutritious and delicious, with modifications for texture and dietary requirements.
  • The Benefit: Ensures residents receive proper nutrition while enjoying the dignity and pleasure of mealtime.

7. Music Therapy

Healing Through Sound. Music connects directly to emotion and memory. We use music in therapeutic ways to address physical, emotional, and cognitive needs.

  • Activities: Personalized playlists, sing-alongs, instrument playing, and rhythmic movement.
  • The Benefit: Reduces agitation, evokes cherished memories, and improves mood and motor skills.
